About Peugeot

The Peugeot vehicle catalog presents Peugeot, a French manufacturer known for not only passenger and commercial vehicles but also bicycles, motorcycles, and scooters. Based in Sochaux, the company has been operational since 1810 and is part of the international Stellantis group. Peugeot's history is a story of innovation, surviving through changing eras, and adapting to market needs.

Beginnings and Development - From Bicycles to Cars

Founded in 1810 by Jean Pierre Peugeot, the mechanical workshops in Sochaux marked the beginning of a long history of innovation. The turn of the 19th century saw Armand and Eugéne Peugeot, Jean Pierre's cousins, start producing bicycles, not realizing how far their company would go. A real breakthrough was Armand Peugeot's decision to start manufacturing cars, leading to the presentation of the first steam-powered vehicle in 1889. However, the first gasoline engine car, powered by a Daimler engine and presented in 1891, brought success.

Era of Innovation - Pioneering Peugeot Models

Peugeot's years of success were marked by the introduction of innovative models and solutions. In 1929, the 201 model launched the famous three-digit numbering system with a zero in the middle. Subsequent decades brought models like the Peugeot 403 in 1955 with diesel engines and the elegant Peugeot 404 in 1961, which gained popularity for its quality and durability. The introduction of smaller models in the 1970s and 1980s changed the brand's image to a producer of popular cars, and strategic decisions, such as the acquisition of Citroën and Chrysler, shaped the company's face.

Sport and Advertising - Peugeot in Racing

Peugeot understood the significance of sport as an advertising platform. Winning numerous rallies and races, the brand gained a reputation not only as a producer of durable and reliable vehicles but also as a symbol of prestige and sports achievements. Models like the Peugeot 504, 405, and 307 won Car of the Year titles, confirming their quality and innovation.

Global Operations and Production Diversity

Today, Peugeot is a true global player with 24 manufacturing plants worldwide. The company continues the tradition of producing bicycles and mopeds, as well as offering professional and amateur power tools. Their largest sedans, like the Peugeot 607, were used by the President of France and heads of French corporations, demonstrating their prestige and the trust they enjoy.
