About Nissan
The Nissan vehicle catalog details Nissan, officially known as Nissan Jidōsha Kabushiki-gaisha, a prominent Japanese manufacturer of cars and buses headquartered in Yokohama. Globally recognized, Nissan boasts a rich history and significant impact on the automotive market worldwide.
Beginnings and Evolution of Nissan
Nissan's roots can be traced back to the Kwaishinsha company, established in 1911 in Tokyo by Masujiro Hashimoto. The brand's first passenger car, DAT, was inspired by Hashimoto's experiences in the USA. The name DAT comes from an acronym of the surnames of the project's backers: Kenjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama, and Meitaro Takeuchi. In 1934, after a series of mergers and changes, the enterprise adopted the name Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.
Post-WWII Development and Expansion
After World War II, Nissan emerged from crisis through collaboration with the British brand Austin and the production of licensed vehicles. This event kickstarted its development, making it Japan's second-largest car manufacturer. In 1983, the brand underwent a significant change from Datsun to Nissan.
Introduction of the Infiniti Brand and Collaboration with Renault
In 1989, Nissan introduced the luxury brand Infiniti, targeted at the American market. In 1999, Nissan entered a partnership with the French company Renault, purchasing 35% of its shares, while in 2002, Renault acquired 43.4% of Nissan Motor Co.'s shares.
Nissan in the 21st Century: Innovations and Global Impact
In 2010, Nissan, in collaboration with Renault, began a project with Daimler AG. The company has also proven to be a leader in innovation, producing over 5.1 million vehicles in 2015 and receiving significant grants in the USA.
